A conniving aggression
Sayf, 22 years, Cap Bon
On August 31, 2022, Sayf went to meet his ex-fiancée to sort out a few problems. He was accompanied by his friend. His ex-fiancée's brother-in-law, Bassem, was also present. The conversation was cordial, until Bassem's wife arrived and whispered a few words into his ear. Bassem turned to Sayf and started hitting him, as well as his friend who tried to intervene.
Sayf and his friend went to the police station to lodge a complaint. Sayf called his mother, who met them at the police station. The officers started to register the complaint, but then stopped and told the two young men that they should go and file a complaint at the National Guard instead. They were told to wait outside the station for a police car to pick them up and take them to the National Guard. A few minutes later, a police car arrived and stopped in front of the station. Sayf got in spontaneously, but the two officers in the car began to insult him, reproaching him for getting in without permission . Sayf insulted them in return and found himself handcuffed and beaten in the car. His mother tried to intervene and
was insulted and hit with a shoe. According to Sayf, one of the officers is a friend of Bassem's and that's why he was attacked.
Sayf was arrested, taken to another police station and placed in custody. The next day, he was brought before the public prosecutor. Sayf wanted to show the traces of violence, but the prosecutor silenced him. He ordered that he be remanded in custody.
Immediately after the attack, Sayf's mother lodged a complaint against the assailants. The investigation made little progress. However, in October 2022, Sayf was given a six-and-a-half-month suspended prison sentence for contempt of public office.
